There's a tall tree down by where I live
It's been standing there for hundreds of years
It's seen the wars, the storms and the rains
It’s witnessed progress of man
When I was young my father said
This tree here... Is wiser than man!
It knows to wait when life goes too fast
It knows to hold (its) breath when winters last
There's so much in this tree
So many of our fantasies,
It knows so much about me
So many of our plans and dreams...
You can piss on it as much as you want
It will stand straight when you're long gone
Feeding off your waste and body fluids
Just to keep... going along!
REFRAIN
When our children play under this tree
When they climb on it, what will they see?
Will they feel the pulse of our lives in it?
Will they hear our whispers through its leaves?
